The eighth annual Patricia Grodd Poetry Prize for Young Writers will begin accepting entries in November. The prize, which is open to high school sophomores and juniors throughout the world, is juried by David Baker, KR's poetry editor.

A New Year

Bartleby Snopes Third Annual Dialogue Only Contest – Compose a short story entirely of dialogue; under 2000 words. Award: minimum $250 for first place, at least $10 to four honorable mentions; plus publication. Entry fee: $10. Deadline: September 12, 2011. Info: www.bartlebysnopes.com/contests.htm

2011 Wabash Prize for Poetry. For each submission, send up to three poems. Award: $1000 and winning entry published in Winter/Spring 2012 issue of Sycamore Review. Entry fee: $15. 100 Words or Fewer Writing Contest, Number Eight. Original and complete fiction of not more than 100 words. This is not easy, but we receive stories that match great novels for characters, plots, and endings! Open theme (no porn or gore). See the website for examples of winning stories, checkmark evaluations, and critiques. Awards: $500, $150, $100, $50. Entry fee: $15; plus checkmark evaluation: $23; plus critique: $55.
